Around the Shop: 2013

When we aren't building race cars or getting the most potential from engine builds, we have plenty of other things to keep us busy. Here are a few examples!

In the shop today: Comprehensive dyno development program completed for the multiple time SCCA ARRC championship ITA CRX. Now on to corner weight and four wheel alignment. You can see another pic of this CRX on the King Motorsports Instagram feed.

In the shop today- assembling a close-ratio K series transmission for a Lotus Elise with a K swap-nice!

In our fab shop, we just finished up TIG welding an EGT bung to this S2000 header. This S2000 will be the test bed for the upcoming revised Kraftwerks SC kit.... More details to follow!

Have you checked your rear trailing arm bushings lately? 95% of the cars that we see for service have badly deteriorated rear trailing arm bushings. This condition can lead to very unsafe handling. Here we have just installed a set of PCI rear trailing arm bushings in an 88-91 CRX rear trailing arm.

Heading to the track this season? Consider a set of ARP hardened, extended wheel studs. Cheap insurance against bad things happening....

Mugen Nostalgia: F1 and Track Apparel (Updated)

A little Mugen nostalgia to start off your November!

Damon Hill signed this Jordan Mugen hat for us at the Canadian Grand Prix in 1999 after a great lunch with the Jordan boys. This was Damon's last year driving in F1 and it was clear he was tired of F1. His team mate Heinz Harald Frentzen, by comparison was having a tremendous season and was full of energy and was all smiles......

These Mugen hot fingers gloves were standard issue for all the Mugen mechanics working in the field circa 1989-1990.

Here's a Mugen Sports team jacket circa 1989. Very cool to wear at the track back in the day. Shown here propped up Mugen's new MS-Z Semi Bucket Seat.

Update 2/14/2013:

Here is another great Mugen jacket circa 1998; part of the Mugen/Honda F1 racing team collection.

Update 3/16/2013:

1999 Mugen/Honda Formula 1 team gear...

Mugen Fit spec. D Concept

Some Fit love! ... The 2007 Mugen Fit spec. D concept car. We've always admired the Fit for its versatility and sporting character- always punching well above its weight!

The concept features a mean "power bulge" hood reminiscent of the RSX Mugen hood. A gunmetal grill and Mugen badge class up the front end. Gunmetal Mugen GP wheels fill out the chiseled widebody kit that elaborately transforms every panel and door on the profile of the car.

We currently have quite a few Mugen performance parts on sale for the Fit!

Mugen Helmets

Here are a few rare helmets made by Mugen (to keep your skull safe while you're chasing the crown).

This all-white, super clean helmet was available in the late 80's.

And here are pics shared by Shaun J. of his NOS 80's Mugen helmet -- beautiful!

Mugen Factory: Machining Center

Here's a glimpse of the inner working of the Mugen factory- the Machining Center. The entire Machining Center is built on a giant pad that absorbs any vibrations caused by seismic tremors that could cause the sensitive machinery to go out of calibration.

1985: Mugen Rear Spoiler Lineup

Flip back your calendars with us to 1985 for this look at Mugen's rear spoiler lineup for Honda...

Mugen CRX Postcard and Wind Tunnel Testing

In 1985 American Honda mailed this postcard to enthusiasts all over the US to help introduce them to Mugen competition parts.

Note the spelling of CRX for the US versus CR-X for Japan. How would you like to see these guys coming up behind you in your rear view mirror?

1984 Mugen Apparel, Sticker and Emblem Catalog

We recently dug up these wonderful Mugen catalog pages featuring the apparel, stickers and emblems they were offering for sale in 1984.

The red, blue, and navy shirt colors remind us of shirts we might have had in high school. You can see that Mugen's apparel designers were not afraid to experiment with variations of their Mugen logo and kanji.

Back in the day could have bought your very own Mugen driver suit! The back lists some of the motorsports Mugen had their hands into, including MOTORCROSS and RACING KART. Looks like there was a typo on the price ...

This blue button down would look great in the pits and have a very retro uniform / military look to them. We dig the gold collar. The white tee with red print has a very classic graphic on the front that still holds up years later.

These red, blue and white sweatshirts tug on the 80's era fashion sense. We'd rock these at the next Dyno Day!

Here's the page with hats, stickers, emblems and patches:

I'm not sure if these two hats could be any cooler. Especially the one with the mesh back! UNLIMITED POWER UNIT!

These patches play with rainbow gradations, 3D and unique layouts of the Mugen branding. COMPETITION POWER UNIT SUPPLIER just about sums it up.

CR-X fans will love that the CR-X PRO stickers are featured in this catalog. The front visor sticker properly curves to the front glass. The door graphics come in white or black. We've always loved that cool rear sticker that replaces the OEM CR-X sticker.

Hmm, can you abbreviate "suspension" as "sus."? Works for us!

More stickers! These days you rarely see the color blue used in Mugen branding.

These classic emblems came in multiple colors and sizes.

If you still have any of these unique items, let us know on the King Motorsports Facebook page!

You can see all of the currently available Mugen shirts, Mugen apparel and Mugen stickers on our online store.
